Should I change the name of my business?

I meet with my best friend on a weekly basis to talk about different business topics. She gives me advice and helps keep me accountable, and it’s honestly been one of the most helpful things since starting my business.

On a recent call, she gently suggested something big: Should I consider renaming my business?

If you’ve ever Googled You’ve Got The Love, you’ve probably noticed that Florence + The Machine completely dominates the search results. It’s highly unlikely that my business will ever show up in those first ten pages. That fact alone is worth considering as I think about whether a new name could be beneficial.

But before diving into the pros and cons, I wanted to share the story of how You’ve Got The Love came to be.

The Meaning Behind the Name

No surprise—Florence was the inspiration. I can still remember going for a run back home in Kelowna, listening to You’ve Got The Love, and feeling completely moved by the lyrics:

"Sometimes, I feel like throwing my hands up in the air

I know I can count on you

Sometimes, I feel like saying, 'Lord, I just don't care'

But you've got the love I need to see me through"

For me, this was more than just a feel-good song. It was those specific words: You've got the love I need to see me through. Contrary to the title, the song wasn’t about me having love—it was about God having the love I need to sustain me.

I’ve always found so much joy in discovering faith in unexpected or non-religious places—music, movies, and everyday moments that aren’t traditionally labeled as “Christian.” This song was a perfect example of that. It was a reminder that I need  God every single day, and if I pursued this business, He would be my ultimate business partner. His love fills me up, fuels my creativity, and gives me purpose in serving others.

It also took many years to actually share this story because part of me was ashamed of my faith. I have never liked being labeled a “Christian” and was scared that people would think I was a judgmental rule follower.

And while that’s not how I see myself (my faith is actually freeing), I finally am in a place where I don’t care what others think, and I don’t want to be ashamed of what I believe. I hate even admitting that I was ashamed because the truth is that God has done so many wonderful things in my life. I’ve seen miracles happen before my eyes, and He has given me no reason to ever doubt his existence.

All that to say - You’ve Got The Love was a very intentional name that reminds me of God’s love and strength... that I’m not alone in the highs and lows.

The Dilemma

On the flip side, the name has no direct connection to what my business actually does. And with such a common phrase tied to a famous song, it’s nearly impossible to find it online without the exact URL.

So, here I am—wrestling with this question.

I’d love to hear from you: Do you think a name change would be helpful? If you were in my shoes, what would you do?

Thanks, as always, for being a part of the journey :)
